1947 Mercury Army Medic’s Roadster

1947 Mercury Roadster

Officially described as: ‘Bicycle, Trade Pattern, Heavy Duty’

Series 6/VEH/17245

26″ Wheels

ARMY MEDIC’S MACHINE with FIRST AID BOX

The Mercury on the previous page has 28″ wheels, while this one has 26″ wheels. Otherwise they’re similar bikes, each with the number 6/VEH/17245 stamped under the seat.

MERCURY & MK.V

The Mk.V is on the left and the Mercury on the right. They both have the same type of first aid box on their rear rack. The racks have cut-outs so that a rifle can be mounted alongside.

I bought these two machines from my friend Richard. He got them 30 years ago at an army surplus auction. I bought two Fire Service Mercury’s from him several years ago; all four machines have the same tags on the crossbars, as below.

DUNLOP CARRIER TYRES 26 x 2 x 1 3/4

The tyres on this Mercury are standard heavy duty tradesmen’s bike tyres.
